A non-bearing wall top plate connects beneath parallel wood joists with a one-half inch clearance gap maintained above the double top plate. The wall features two two-by top plates supporting parallel wood joists, with two-by-six blocking spaced at twenty-four inches on center secured using two sixteen-penny nails each end through the joist web. Continuous two-by-four blocking is fastened at each side using two sixteen-penny nails or three #8 by 3 inch sheet rock screws per block, supplemented by STC framing anchors at twenty-four inches on center each side on the alternative condition. A staggered two-by-six blocking configuration is also utilized between joists.
