A steel beam-to-column flange connection at the top of a column features a cap plate, continuity plates, and a shear tab where required. The cap plate thickness is specified as the greater of the connected flange thicknesses TF1 or TF2 plus one-quarter inch, with a one-inch minimum. Continuity plates are sized using the larger of TF1 or TF2 per the reference detail. Shear tabs connect the beam webs to the column flange, accompanied by typical welds at the top and bottom beam flanges.
