Continuous concrete footing features vertical steps with dimensions controlled by step height "S" and footing depth "D". Reinforcement consists of continuous footing bars sized per plan with a two-foot minimum Class B lap splice. Horizontal lap distance requires a minimum of two times the step height "S" with a six-inch minimum and four-foot maximum. Concrete clear cover maintains three inches at bottom and exterior faces, and two inches at top surfaces. Retaining walls and garden wall footings may alternatively be sloped one-in-ten in lieu of stepping.
