An HSS member connects to the flange of an existing wide flange column using top and bottom clip angles. The connection utilizes L6x4x3/8 and L6x6x3/8 structural angles fastened with three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts and three-quarter-inch diameter A325 through-bolts. Three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plates are welded to the assembly with quarter-inch fillet welds typical. A maximum gap of one-half inch is maintained at the joint.
