A vertical control joint in a concrete masonry unit wall omits mortar and receives exterior caulking per architectural specifications. Horizontal reinforcement terminates two inches from the control joint on both sides, except at floor and roof bond beams where a sixteen-inch smooth dowel of the same size spans across the joint. The dowel is prevented from bonding with the grout using grease or a plastic sleeve and is capped to allow one inch of movement. Closed-end masonry blocks are provided at the joint alongside vertical reinforcement placed per specification section 04000.
