A continuous wide-flange beam frames into either a wide-flange or hollow structural section column. A three-quarter-inch plate welded to the top of the column receives four three-quarter-inch diameter A325-N bolts in a typical layout with usual gauge dimensions and a width equal to the beam flange. Half-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web aligned with the column supports using three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides. Additional welds connect the web and flanges per American Institute of Steel Construction specifications.
