A concrete shear key is integrated into a concrete footing with three inches of concrete clearance. An optional construction joint requires the surface to be roughened to a quarter-inch amplitude. The shear key measures two feet wide by two feet deep and is reinforced with number five continuous horizontal bars spaced at twelve inches on center maximum vertical spacing. Number six vertical reinforcing bars are centered in the key at eight inches on center, featuring a standard one-hundred-eighty-degree hook at the bottom and a standard ninety-degree hook at the top.
