A structural steel pipe column transfers loads through a square base plate secured by four embedded anchor rods into a reinforced concrete pier and footing assembly. The column base and embedded hardware are protected with a bituminous coating and surrounded by a concrete encasement below the finish grade. The pier is reinforced with eight vertical bars and ties spaced at specific intervals. A dedicated access hole is provided in the pipe column for utility line installation toward the center of the canopy.
