A two-by wood nailer, ripped to match the width of the steel beam flange, is fastened to the top of the steel beam. The assembly utilizes three-quarter-inch diameter Grade 36 welded threaded studs with a one-and-a-half-inch rod projection above the top of the steel. A three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld secures the stud to the top flange. The nailer requires a minimum of three-eighths-inch of threads exposed above the nut. Stud spacing is twenty-four inches on center, or ten inches on center where members are designated as part of the seismic force-resisting system.
