A hollow structural section column bears onto a wide flange beam sized per plan via a three-quarter-inch plate measuring the flange width plus one inch minimum. Four seven-eighth-inch diameter bolts provide the primary connection, with four three-quarter-inch diameter bolts used where the flange width is less than or equal to four and a half inches. A full depth three-eighth-inch stiffener plate is welded to each side, or alternatively a full height shear tab is used where a perpendicular beam occurs. A quarter-inch fillet weld secures the base plate assembly to the supporting wide flange beam.
