This structural steel connection details the transition from a smaller column to a larger column utilizing a cap plate measuring 1-1/2 inches thick for W8 or W10 profiles and 2 inches thick for W12 or larger profiles. Stiffener plates measuring 1/2 inch by 16 inches are provided on both the near side and far side. Welds include 3/8 inch fillets typically at the flange and 7/16 inch fillets typically at the web. Plan views show orientations with the web perpendicular and the web parallel.
