A steel wide flange beam connects to a hollow structural section beam using a WT section web connection. The WT section web is sized to match the typical bolted web plate connection schedule, featuring a minimum flange width of 4 inches and a flange thickness not less than the web thickness. The wide flange beam top and bottom flanges are coped as required to clear the support, maintaining a maximum 3 inch gap. Dimension A governs the cope geometry based on the lesser of the HSS wall thickness minus 1/16 inch or one-half the flange thickness plus 1/16 inch.
