Shear studs are welded through the metal deck into the supporting beam flange according to specific spacing and clearance requirements. Two studs per flute are specified for beam flanges greater than or equal to five and a half inches, and one stud per flute is typical for smaller dimensions. Specific edge distances and clearances from the centerline of the beam are maintained for structural compliance.
