A structural steel beam connects to a hollow structural section member using a one-half inch shear plate and a one-half inch cap plate aligned with the center of the hollow structural section. The web plate connection is bolted per the standard schedule with web stiffeners welded as specified in the general structural notes. Fillet welds of various sizes secure the connection plates to the framing members. A concrete slab over metal floor deck bears above the framing with a maximum one-half inch gap maintained.
