Boundary element reinforcement at a concrete shear wall door opening incorporates fourteen number five vertical bars confined by number four closed ties and number four crossed ties spaced at five inches on center. Wall reinforcement outside the boundary element is provided per the wall elevation on drawing four of sheet S5.04. Cover dimensions are maintained at one and one-half inches typical throughout the assembly. The boundary element zone extends three feet from the maximum four-foot six-inch door opening with seven equal tie spacings.
