An HSS beam terminates with a one-quarter inch thick cap plate welded across the end. A smaller perpendicular HSS member bears on top of the beam near the end, set one inch back from the cap plate face. A three-sixteenths inch fillet weld secures the perpendicular member on each side. A field weld symbol indicates additional welding at the bottom intersection.
