Two steel beams connect to a hollow structural section column using five-sixteenths inch thick connection plates welded to the column with quarter-inch fillet welds and attached to the beams with two three-quarter-inch diameter thru-bolts in horizontal short slotted holes on each side. A maximum half-inch gap is maintained between the beam ends and the column face. Fillet welds of quarter-inch and five-sixteenths inch size secure the connection plates per plan specifications.
