A beam top flange and beam bottom flange connect to a column flange utilizing a complete joint penetration weld from the beam web to the column flange or web. Weld access holes are detailed at each flange, requiring the removal of back-up bars followed by grinding smooth and reinforcing with a one-quarter-inch minimum fillet weld on the top flange and a fillet weld sized at flange thickness divided by four or five-sixteenths inch minimum up to three-eighths inch maximum on the bottom flange. Dimensions for the weld access hole require a radius and clearance of at least the web thickness, with a centerline offset specified as one and a half times the web thickness.
