A wood beam supported by a wood post utilizes a Simpson "ECC" post cap secured with bolts. Two two-by-six top plates run continuously across the wood studs spaced at sixteen inches on center. A three-eighths-inch thick by four-inch wide plate attaches to each side with eight one-inch diameter machine bolts. A three-eighths-inch thick "U" plate with four one-inch diameter machine bolts ties into the assembly. Six-by-six blocking is installed across a minimum of three bays, with double two-by studs fastened using sixteen-penny nails at twelve inches on center.
