A stair stringer connects to a wide flange beam using a half-inch gusset plate with erection bolts as required. The connection incorporates quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides joining the plate and structural members. A two-inch return is specified at the top and bottom. The assembly supports a cross-laminated timber floor or concrete over metal deck bearing adjacent to the stair treads and steel risers.
