A typical chord connection at a wall junction utilizes four-by wood blocking secured with a continuous three-eighths-inch by three-and-a-half-inch steel plate. The plate is fastened with three-eighths-inch diameter by four-inch lag screws or four-inch self-drilling structural screws, specifying one screw per joist and two screws per blocking element. Additional stability is provided by ninety-degree angles located at each end of the wood blocking. Joists are positioned on each side of the wall with symmetrical conditions applied.
