A bent structural steel beam connects to a continuing horizontal member at a directional change sized per plan. Half-inch stiffener plates are welded to both sides of the web and flange. Complete joint penetration welds are specified at the beam web and flange connection. A one-quarter inch fillet weld is applied on three sides at the joint interface.
