Two wide-flange steel columns meet at a horizontal splice line with milled surfaces on the top of steel. An erection and backing plate is provided by others. Partial joint penetration and complete joint penetration welds are specified along the flange, with specific weld sizing between the k regions. A minimum four-foot distance is maintained to the top of steel.
