A steel column connects to a supporting steel beam sized per plan with a base plate and anchor bolts securing the flange. Two 10mm (3/8-inch) stiffener plates are centered on the steel column on each side of the beam web. A field weld connects the base plate to the supporting beam flange, with the structural steel contractor designing the alternate field weld as required.
