The circular opening of diameter D is centered on the beam web, requiring half-inch or one-eighth inch web plates sized per schedule top and bottom. Dimensional constraints require a minimum clear distance of d over six from the flange to the opening edge, with web plate extensions of D over two plus one inch beyond the opening diameter horizontally. Fillet welds secure the web plates typically top and bottom. Clearances from the flange fillet comply with AISC standards.
