A steel beam connects to a supporting steel column with a three-quarter-inch thick bearing plate secured by three-quarter-inch diameter machine bolts. A stiffener plate three-eighths of an inch thick is welded to each side of the beam web using quarter-inch fillet welds. A three-eighths-inch thick plate is centered on the splice at each side and fastened with bolts per the schedule shown on sheet five, with five-sixteenths-inch field welds applied on three sides as required.
