A steel beam bears onto a steel column outfitted with a steel cap plate sized per the column schedule. A beam web stiffener or beam web connection plate is welded to each side of the beam web. The cap plate is secured with a one-quarter inch fillet weld applied to three sides. Additional one-quarter inch fillet welds connect the beam web plates to the supporting elements.
