A construction joint in a reinforced concrete beam or girder is located within the middle third of the span. All main reinforcing bars continue uninterrupted across the joint interface, supplemented by diagonal hairpin bars whose sizing varies by member width from one to six number six bars each way. Additional transverse ties are spaced at three inches on center near the joint. The joint interface features a centered shear key with a one-and-a-half-inch offset.
