A wide-flange beam connects to a hollow structural section column with top and bottom continuity plates matching the width of the column. The continuity plate thickness matches the thickest beam flange plus one-eighth inch at this level, welded with a five-sixteenth inch complete joint penetration weld at the top and bottom. A shear plate connects the beam web with a bolted schedule specified elsewhere. A minimum one-half inch clearance is maintained at the column face.
