Open-web steel roof joists bear on top of a wide-flange steel support girder sized per plan. The roof deck rests on the top chords of the joists and is sized and attached per the structural schedule. Bolted connections are required for all joists with spans exceeding forty feet. Fillet welds secure the joist seats to the support girder, measuring one-quarter inch at long-span series joists and one-eighth inch at K-series joists.
