Typical stiffener plates are welded to a steel beam web. The stiffener plates are specified as three-eighths inch thick typically unless noted otherwise, with corners clipped to clear the beam k-area. Fillet welds of one-quarter inch size are applied to each side where indicated, adhering to AWS D1.1 Table 5.8 requirements. Extended plates may be provided as required by the beam connection schedule, and larger plates and welds are used if mandated by design calculations.
