A steel bridge beam connects across a four-and-a-half inch expansion joint with a slide bearing and support provided by others. The structural assembly accommodates design loads including thirty-two kips dead load, thirteen kips live load, and twelve point five kips earthquake load. A typical three-sided weld secures the connection near the level two elevation reference of twenty-one feet.
