A structural steel beam frames into a column web using a web connection plate paired with continuous plates at the top and bottom flanges. The web connection plate thickness equals the beam web thickness plus one-quarter inch. Complete joint penetration welds secure the beam top and bottom to the column flange, backed by continuous plates on both sides. An erection plate connects to the web connection plate on three sides with field welds. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds attach the connection plates to the web, and typical snips measure one inch by one inch.
