A splice connection ties an HSS chord member to a column stub member per schedule. One-and-five-eighths-inch-thick cap plates weld to the ends of both the HSS chord and the column stub with five-eighths-inch fillet welds and complete joint penetration welds. A one-and-one-quarter-inch-thick plate and three-quarter-inch-thick plates sandwich between the cap plates and fasten with seven-eighths-inch A490X bolts in a configured pattern. The assembly maintains a gap of one-half inch typical between components while aligning with the cladding surface.
