A steel beam features a top flange notch with a depth limited to a maximum of half the beam depth. An internal reinforcing plate matches the flange thickness and width, extending into a slot cut into the beam web. One-half inch fillet welds secure the plate within the web slot and along the web assembly. A bolted shear tab connection frames the beam end to the supporting column, with provision for a second row of bolts when required by design loads.
