The steel beam connects to the structural steel column web through a bolted shear tab and complete joint penetration moment welds at the top and bottom flanges. Continuity plates matching the cantilever beam flange thickness are welded top and bottom on both sides of the column web. The shear tab uses one-and-one-eighth-inch-diameter A490-SC slip-critical bolts sized per the typical beam connection schedule. Typical layout dimensions maintain a two-inch spacing from the column centerline to the bolt line.
