An HSS girt connects to a structural steel column flange or hollow structural section tube column using a three-eighths-inch bent plate welded to the column with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to the column on three sides with three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds, omitted when connecting to a tube column. The HSS girt fastens to the bent plate using three-quarter-inch diameter A307 bolts in short-slotted holes oriented along the longitudinal axis of the girt. Equivalent flare bevel welds are provided at the tube column as required.
