A wide flange beam per plan connects to a full-height three-eighths-inch stiffener plate on each side unless otherwise noted, with a one-quarter-inch stiffener plate acceptable for W16 or shallower sections with flange thicknesses five-eighths-inch or thinner. The stiffener plates feature typical 'k' by 'k' chamfers at the inner corners to clear the beam fillet. Fillet welds connect the assembly with three-sixteenths-inch welds at one-quarter-inch stiffeners and five-sixteenths-inch welds at webs or flanges over three-quarters-inch thick.
