A concrete slab construction joint features a keyed profile where the depth of the key is half the slab thickness typical, or alternatively the entire surface is intentionally roughened at the contractor's option. All slab reinforcing steel extends continuously through the joint. Spacing limitations include a six-inch minimum edge distance and thirty-inch maximum spacing along the joint profile.
