Steel beams frame into opposite sides of a continuous hollow structural section column using shear tab plates welded to the tube face. A plate extends through a kerf cut into the column tube on one side, while the opposite side features a shear tab welded directly to the hollow structural section face with quarter-inch fillet welds at the tube corners without requiring a kerf. High-strength bolts secure the beam webs to the connection plates.
