A spreader beam connection frames into a hollow structural section column using plates on each side. Two three-quarter-inch-diameter through-bolts pass through horizontal short slotted holes in the connection plates to allow movement, maintaining a maximum one-half-inch gap at the column face. A one-quarter-inch plate welded with typical three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds secures the HSS beam per plan. The assembly accommodates standard structural steel framing dimensions with specific clearances indicated.
