A mild reinforced concrete slab closure strip spans between two adjacent concrete slabs, cast a minimum of twenty-eight days after the adjacent slab placement. Keyed construction joints are provided on each side per the typical slab construction detail. Supplemental number four reinforcing bars are placed at twenty-four inches on center where no top reinforcement exists per plan. The lap splice length of the largest top or bottom bar governs the extension into the closure strip, alongside bottom reinforcement sized per plan. Shoring must remain under the slab until the closure strip reaches its twenty-eight-day design strength.
