A hollow structural section column frames above and below a steel beam connection. The assembly incorporates a cap plate matching the beam flange thickness with a minimum three-quarter inch dimension, connected via five-sixteenth inch welds excluding the k-region and flange ends. Three-eighth inch full height stiffener plates are positioned on each side along the column centerline. Four seven-eighth inch diameter A325-X bolts secure the hollow structural section column with standard gaging. Finger shims are used as necessary for alignment, and cross beams require full height stiffeners of specified thickness.
