Metal deck spans perpendicularly across a supporting steel beam and fastens using shear studs and puddle welds. Shear studs anchor through the metal deck into the top flange of the beam with a maximum spacing of thirty-six inches, located on the side of the flute toward the nearest end of the beam. Puddle welds secure the deck where no stud is provided, spaced a maximum of eighteen inches apart. Additional studs are placed at the beam ends to meet the quantity required on the structural plan.
