A side connection between a wide-flange beam or channel side member and a main hollow structural section column of 12 inches and larger utilizes angles on each side bolted to the web of the side member and the face of the column. A 3/16-inch cap plate is positioned flush inside the HSS column where applicable. Minimum American Institute of Steel Construction clearances and edge distances govern the bolt pattern and weld sizing.
