Structural support for roof openings accommodating supply fans, exhaust fans, makeup air units, or rooftop units consists of L4x4x1/4 steel angles installed around the perimeter of the opening to provide bearing for the equipment. These support angles are required unless the mechanical unit aligns directly with the primary roof joists. The framing is positioned between existing joists, with the specific opening dimensions determined per the architectural or mechanical plan.
