Structural reinforcement methods for penetrations in concrete-filled metal deck floors address both pre-pour and post-pour opening procedures. For openings cut after the concrete pour, L1-1/2x1-1/2x1/4 angles are welded to two full high deck flutes on each side, supplemented by pairs of number four reinforcing bars placed on each side full span. For blockouts prepared with styrofoam before pouring, slab openings up to two feet maximum width are reinforced with two number four bars on each side. Round openings are accommodated where specified, and openings smaller than six inches require no additional reinforcing.
