Bearing wall studs connect to the double top plates at the roof level using a galvanized steel stud tie plate. The stud tie plate fastens to the framing with nine 10d by 1 1/2-inch nails into the stud and six 10d by 1 1/2-inch nails into the top plates. This roof connection occurs at all bearing wall studs sized per plan.
