A buckling-restrained braced frame column base plate connection is oriented on the strong axis. The assembly features a heavy embed plate measuring 1 inch by 19 inches by 2 feet 8 inches, centered on the column with twenty number 5 by 2-foot welded rebar placed at 7-inch longitudinal and 5-inch transverse spacings below. The column flanges connect via complete joint penetration welds, while the web utilizes 5/16-inch fillet welds top and bottom. A gusset plate provided per the buckling-restrained brace manufacturer ties into the connection along with typical shear plates and a 1-1/2-inch diameter grout hole. Square Grade 50 washer plates measuring 1 inch by 5 inches are installed with standard holes per AISC recommendations.
