A structural steel beam frames into a hollow structural section column with a welded knife drag plate and bolted shear connection. A one-quarter inch thick cap plate tops the HSS5x5x5/16 column, receiving a knife drag plate welded with one-quarter inch fillet welds on two sides for two feet six inches. A one-half by five inch wide plate ties into the assembly with typical one-quarter inch fillet welds. Framing beams connect via bolted shear tabs detailed per sheet S900, located below the metal deck assembly.
